Sea Storm

Built almost entirely in shades of blue, from deep ultramarine to lighter, brighter tones, the painting captures a sea caught in the middle of a storm. Flashes of white break across the waves at the bottom of the canvas, while the dark sky above feels heavy and restless.

The work balances abstraction and a recognisable subject. Seen one way, it is an arrangement of colour, movement and texture. Seen another, the shapes and changing blue tones reveal turbulent water and a stormy sky, so the idea of a storm at sea appears gradually rather than through a strictly realistic approach.

The painting was created in March 2024.
